Est. 2018 · Portland, Oregon
Single-origin beans. Slow-roasted with intention.
Served in a space built for stillness.
Our Story
We started Ember & Grounds with a single conviction: that great coffee deserves the same reverence as great wine. Every bean we source has a name, a farm, a story — and we roast each one to honour that origin.
Our roastery sits in the heart of Portland's Pearl District. Come for the coffee, stay for the quiet. We've designed every corner of this space to slow you down.
We work directly with farmers across Ethiopia, Colombia, and Guatemala — paying above fair-trade prices.
Roasted in 10kg batches, twice a week. Never sitting on a shelf longer than 14 days.
Spent grounds go to local urban gardens. Packaging is fully compostable.
Where It Begins
Tasting notes: Jasmine · Bergamot · Peach
The birthplace of coffee. Our Ethiopian lot is washed-process, grown at 1,900m, and delivers a cup of extraordinary floral clarity.
Tasting notes: Dark Chocolate · Caramel · Red Apple
From a family-run finca at 1,700m. Honey-processed for sweetness. The backbone of our espresso blend and a crowd favourite as a pour-over.
Tasting notes: Brown Sugar · Almond · Citrus Zest
Volcanic soil, cool nights, and a cooperative of 40 smallholder farmers. Full-bodied with a clean, lingering finish.

— Marcus T., Food Writer
"I've tried every specialty café in the city. Ember & Grounds is in a different league. The cortado alone is worth the trip."
— Priya M., Coffee Enthusiast
